Landspout Threat: Gusty Showers Near Taylor, Baker County

Residents in Baker and Northern Columbia counties, especially near Taylor, are advised to consider seeking shelter indoors as a Special Weather Statement has been issued. The National Weather Service in Jacksonville, FL, reports gusty showers capable of producing a landspout.

As of 9:17 PM EDT, Doppler radar detected this weather system 7 miles southwest of Taylor, or 19 miles northeast of Lake City. It is moving north at 25 mph. The primary hazards are landspouts and wind gusts up to 40 mph.

The NWS indicates that minor damage to outdoor objects is possible. Gusty winds could also knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. The affected areas include Taylor, Baker, Northern Columbia, Clinch, and Southern Ware counties. This Special Weather Statement is effective immediately and expires at 9:45 PM EDT tonight, October 9, 2026.
