A strong thunderstorm with 40 mph wind gusts is impacting the Lake Houston area, including Kingwood and Humble, until 4:15 PM CDT; seek indoor shelter now.
Residents in Northern Liberty, Inland Harris, Southern Liberty, and Coastal Harris counties are advised to seek shelter indoors as a strong thunderstorm is tracking over Lake Houston, near Kingwood, as of 3:41 PM CDT today, October 2, 2026. The National Weather Service (NWS) Houston/Galveston TX has issued a Special Weather Statement.
Doppler radar indicates the storm is moving northwest at 15 mph, posing a hazard of wind gusts up to 40 mph. These gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects.
Locations impacted include Humble, Kingwood, Barrett, Crosby, Lake Houston Dam, Lake Houston, Atascocita, Sheldon, and eastern Bush Intercontinental Airport.
This Special Weather Statement is effective immediately and is set to expire at 4:15 PM CDT today, October 2, 2026. If you are outdoors in the affected areas, please consider seeking shelter inside a building for your safety.
