Pinellas County voters will decide on two charter amendments on the November 3, 2026 ballot that would extend commissioner terms from two years to three years and adjust the mayoral term.
Question 1 asks voters to approve a three-year term for commissioners, beginning with Districts 2 and 4 in November 2027, followed by Districts 1 and 3 in November 2028. Question 2 proposes a one-time two-year mayoral term following the 2027 election, then reverting to three years in 2029 and thereafter. Town officials say the shorter mayoral term maintains staggered election cycles.
Commissioner Maynard requested the exploration of longer commissioner terms at an October 29, 2025 workshop. The Town Commission adopted Ordinance 2026-01 on April 8, 2026, directing the Town Attorney to draft the charter amendments.
Florida law requires municipalities to submit charter amendments for voter approval. Town officials said neither proposal will increase taxes or fees. More information is available on the town's website.
