CLAY COUNTY, MS – A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Clay County, effective immediately as of October 9 at 3:56 PM CDT, by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Jackson, MS. Residents should act now to complete preparations before hazardous winds begin.

The NWS forecasts peak winds of 15-25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. There is potential for winds between 39 to 57 mph. Limited damage to porches, awnings, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes is possible, along with broken tree limbs and scattered power outages. Efforts to protect property should be underway.

A Flood Watch is also in effect. The NWS anticipates 1-3 inches of rain, with locally higher amounts, posing a significant threat for moderate flooding. Emergency plans should include the potential for evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries may overspill their banks, and some roads may become impassable due to flooding. Residents in flood-vulnerable areas should consider protective actions and heed all flood watches and warnings.

Tornadoes are not expected at this time, though showers and thunderstorms with gusty winds may still occur. The warning is set to expire on October 10 at 12:00 AM UTC.
