Tropical Storm Warning for Clay County: Prepare for Winds Up to 55 MPH
Clay County is under a Tropical Storm Warning with winds up to 55 MPH and a Flood Watch for heavy rain; prepare for potential damage and flooding by completing all preparations now.
CLAY COUNTY, AL – A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Clay County by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, effective immediately as of October 9 at 6:57 PM CDT. Residents in Ashland and surrounding areas should complete preparations now as hazardous winds are anticipated.
Peak wind gusts of 15-25 mph, with potential gusts up to 55 mph, are expected. These conditions could lead to damage to porches, awnings, carports, and unanchored mobile homes. Large tree limbs may break, and some trees could be snapped or uprooted. Drivers should anticipate hazardous conditions, especially on bridges, and some roads may become impassable due to debris. Scattered power and communications outages are possible.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with an additional 1-3 inches of rain, and locally higher amounts, expected. Moderate flooding is a potential impact, which could prompt evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries may become swollen, and floodwaters could enter structures. Hazardous driving conditions are expected due to rapid inundation in low-lying areas. Heed any flood watches and warnings immediately.
The NWS indicates a low probability for tornadoes, but residents should remain informed of any forecast changes. This warning is effective until October 10 at 3:00 AM UTC (October 9 at 10:00 PM CDT). For more information and safety resources, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
