Strong Thunderstorm Warning: Gusty Winds, Hail, Lightning in Clark, Oldham, Trimble, Henry, Shelby

A strong thunderstorm is impacting Clark, Oldham, Trimble, Henry, and Shelby counties with gusty winds, pea-sized hail, frequent lightning, and torrential rain; residents should seek shelter and avoid flooded roads until 9:00 PM EDT.

Residents in Clark, Oldham, Trimble, Henry, and Shelby counties are advised to monitor weather conditions closely due to a Special Weather Statement issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Louisville, KY.

As of 8:23 PM EDT, a strong thunderstorm was detected five miles southeast of Bedford, moving southeast at 30 mph. The NWS warns of wind gusts up to 40 mph and pea-sized hail. These conditions could lead to minor damage to outdoor objects, falling tree limbs, and unsecured items being blown around.

Frequent cloud-to-ground lightning is occurring with this storm; lightning can strike up to 10 miles away. Seek safe shelter immediately inside a building or vehicle. Torrential rainfall is also associated with this storm, posing a risk of flash flooding. Do not drive through flooded roadways.

Areas expected to be impacted include New Castle, Bedford, Pendleton, Eminence, Pleasureville, Campbellsburg, Bethlehem, Turners Station, and Lacie. This Special Weather Statement is effective until 9:00 PM EDT tonight, September 18, 2026.
