A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for the Little Belt and Highwood Mountains, Helena Valley, and Elkhorn and Boulder Mountains. The National Weather Service in Great Falls, MT, warns of heavy snow and gusty winds starting Saturday evening, October 10th, and continuing through Sunday afternoon, October 11th. The watch is in effect from October 8th at 2:39 PM MDT until October 11th at 6:00 PM MDT.

Residents in affected areas should monitor the latest forecasts for updates on this situation and prepare for difficult travel conditions, especially over mountain passes. Total snow accumulations of up to 6 inches are possible below 5000 feet, with 6 to 12 inches expected above 5000 feet. Winds could gust as high as 45 mph, potentially leading to downed tree limbs and power lines. Backcountry conditions may become very dangerous. A snow band may develop, causing localized higher snowfall rates.
