Citrus County Seeks Input on New Data Center Rules

Citrus County officials are asking residents to review and comment on new regulations for data center development. The proposed rules aim to protect county residents and Florida's Nature Coast environment.

Residents can view the draft regulations on the county's official website at citruscounty.gov/DCregulations. Submit comments via email to [email protected]. The county will accept comments for about 30 days.

The county currently has a moratorium prohibiting new data center development. The Board of County Commissioners approved this moratorium in May 2026 to allow time to create comprehensive land development code standards for data centers and community protections.

After the public comment period, the draft regulations will go before the Citrus County Planning Development Committee and the Board of County Commissioners for public hearings. The county reports no pending applications for data center development, ensuring established guidelines are in place for future proposals.
