A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for all of San Diego County, with potential coastal flooding, strong winds, and heavy rain expected Sunday from Tropical Storm Rachel.

A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for all of San Diego County, including coastal areas, inland valleys, mountains, and deserts, as Tropical Storm Rachel approaches. The National Weather Service in San Diego CA issued the alert today, October 9, at 8:22 AM PDT, warning of potential coastal flooding, strong winds, and heavy rain beginning Sunday. This watch remains in effect.

Residents should prepare for significant impacts. Coastal areas can expect surf of 5 to 7 feet, with local sets up to 9 feet on Sunday, leading to a high threat of coastal flooding and beach erosion. Heavy rainfall is anticipated across the county, with 0.25-1 inch expected for the coast, valleys, and deserts, and 1-2 inches in the mountains. Increased winds with sustained speeds of 39+ mph are also possible, particularly in the southern parts of the county. These conditions could lead to power outages and hazardous driving conditions.

The National Weather Service advises checking emergency plans and supplies. If you live in a flood-prone area, plan to move to safe shelter on higher ground. Monitor weather.gov, NOAA Weather Radio, and local news for official updates. The next local statement is expected around 2 PM PDT.
