Extreme Heat and Gusty Winds: Santa Ana Mountains Under Alert

An Extreme Heat Warning and Wind Advisory are in effect for the Santa Ana Mountains and Foothills, with temperatures up to 102 degrees and gusty winds expected, urging residents to take immediate safety precautions until Thursday, October 8.

Residents in the Santa Ana Mountains and Foothills must prepare for an Extreme Heat Warning, effective immediately until Thursday, October 8, at 8:00 PM PDT. The National Weather Service (NWS) San Diego has also issued a Wind Advisory for the same area, which is in effect until 6:00 PM PDT this evening, October 3.

Dangerously hot conditions are expected, with temperatures reaching up to 102 degrees Fahrenheit. Gusty east winds between 15 to 25 mph, with gusts up to 40 mph, are also anticipated. These winds can cause unsecured objects to blow around, potentially bring down tree limbs, and may result in localized power outages.

The NWS warns that heat-related illnesses can increase significantly during extreme heat events. To stay safe, residents are advised to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned rooms, and avoid direct sun exposure. Please check on relatives and neighbors, especially those vulnerable to heat.

It is critical that young children and pets are never left in unattended vehicles, as car interiors can reach lethal temperatures rapidly. Driving may also be difficult due to strong winds, particularly for high-profile vehicles, so extra caution is necessary on roadways.
