Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Choctaw County: Flood Watch in Effect

A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Choctaw County by NWS Jackson MS, effective immediately, with significant flooding rain expected and a Flood Watch in effect; residents should prepare for potential moderate flooding and heed all warnings.

Choctaw County residents are urged to prepare for moderate flooding as the National Weather Service (NWS) Jackson MS has issued a Tropical Storm Warning, effective immediately, October 9 at 1:00 PM CDT. While tropical storm-force winds are expected within the next 36 hours, local forecasts indicate winds will remain below tropical storm force, with peak gusts up to 35 mph.

The primary concern is significant flooding rain. A Flood Watch is in effect, with 1-3 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. This rainfall could lead to moderate flooding, potentially prompting evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries may swell, small streams could overflow, and floodwaters may enter structures. Driving conditions are expected to become hazardous with possible road closures.

Residents in flood-prone areas should consider protective actions now. Heed all flood watches and warnings. Failure to take action could result in serious injury or loss of life. While tornadoes are not expected, stay informed of the latest forecast. This warning expires October 9 at 9:00 PM UTC.
