CHOCTAW COUNTY – A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Choctaw County by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Jackson, MS, effective immediately as of October 9 at 3:56 PM CDT. Residents should complete all preparations for hazardous wind and potential moderate flooding now.

Peak wind forecasts anticipate 10-20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, with a potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Damage to outdoor property like awnings and sheds is possible, along with broken tree limbs and scattered power outages. Efforts to protect property should be underway. The warning is in effect until October 10 at 12:00 AM UTC.

A Flood Watch is also in effect for Choctaw County, with around 1 inch of rain expected. This could lead to moderate flooding, prompting possible evacuations and rescues. Rivers and small streams may overflow, and floodwaters could impact structures and roads. Residents in flood-vulnerable areas should consider protective actions and heed all flood watches and warnings.

The NWS indicates the situation is unfavorable for tornadoes, and none are expected. However, gusty winds may accompany showers and thunderstorms. Stay informed of the latest weather updates from the National Weather Service.
