Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Choctaw County: Act Now
Choctaw County is under a Tropical Storm Warning with immediate action required due to potential hazardous winds up to 57 mph and moderate flooding, effective until 6:45 AM CDT on October 10.
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Choctaw County by the National Weather Service (NWS) Jackson MS, effective immediately. Residents must complete preparations for hazardous wind and potential moderate flooding before conditions worsen.
The warning, issued at 10:31 PM CDT on October 9, is in effect until 6:45 AM CDT on October 10. Winds are forecast to be below tropical storm force, with peak winds of 10-20 mph and gusts up to 40 mph. However, there is a potential for winds between 39 to 57 mph. Damage to porches, awnings, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes is possible, along with broken tree limbs and scattered power outages. Hazardous driving conditions are expected on bridges and elevated roadways.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with an additional 1 inch of rain expected. Moderate rainfall flooding could lead to evacuations and rescues. Rivers and streams may overflow their banks, causing inundation in low-lying areas and making some roads impassable. Residents in flood-vulnerable areas should consider protective actions.
The NWS indicates tornadoes are not expected. Act now to secure outdoor items and review flood preparedness plans. Heed any flood watches and warnings. For safety, avoid driving through flooded areas. Stay informed of the latest forecast updates.
