Strong Storms Approach Choctaw, Oktibbeha, Winston Counties
Strong thunderstorms are approaching Choctaw, Oktibbeha, and Winston counties with wind gusts up to 50 mph and penny-sized hail, effective until 9:15 PM CDT tonight. Seek shelter indoors if outdoors.
Residents in Choctaw, Oktibbeha, and Winston counties should prepare for strong thunderstorms moving southeast at 20 mph. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Jackson has issued a Special Weather Statement effective until 9:15 PM CDT tonight, September 21.
As of 8:26 PM CDT, Doppler radar detected strong thunderstorms along a line from Chester to near Longview. These storms are expected to bring wind gusts up to 50 mph and penny-sized hail. Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and displace unsecured outdoor objects. Minor damage to vegetation from hail is possible.
Key timings for affected areas include: Ackerman, Longview, Sturgis, and Chester around 8:30 PM CDT; Craig Springs around 8:40 PM CDT; and Oktoc around 8:55 PM CDT.
The NWS advises that if you are outdoors, you should consider seeking shelter inside a building immediately.
