A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Chilton County, including Clanton, by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, as of October 8 at 10:05 AM CDT. This watch indicates that tropical storm-force winds are possible within the next 48 hours. The watch is effective immediately and expires today, October 8, at 6:15 PM UTC.

Residents should prepare for hazardous winds between 25-35 mph, with gusts up to 55 mph, and potential wind impacts of 39 to 57 mph. Damage to porches, awnings, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes is possible. Efforts to protect property should be underway now. Act quickly to complete preparations before winds become hazardous.

Significant flooding rain is also expected, with peak rainfall amounts of 3-6 inches, and locally higher amounts. Moderate flooding is possible, potentially leading to evacuations and rescues. Heed any flood watches and warnings; failure to act may result in serious injury or loss of life. Rivers and small streams may overflow, and some structures could be affected by floodwaters. Hazardous driving conditions are anticipated.

A few tornadoes are also possible. If your shelter is vulnerable, prepare to relocate to a safe shelter before hazardous weather arrives. If a tornado warning is issued, be ready to shelter quickly. Limited tornado damage is possible, including roofs peeled off buildings and downed trees.
