School Board of Levy County - Assessment

School Board of Levy County - Assessment Skip to main content × Close × Close Assessment Welcome to the Assessment Department   Contact Information   Maria Anderson Coordinator of ESOL/Assessment/MTSS 352-486-5231 x2050 The Department of Assessment supports the successful administration of local, state, and federally required assessment programs across the School Board of Levy County. We provide guidance, training, and technical assistance to school administrators, testing coordinators, and instructional staff to ensure assessments are administered with integrity, consistency, and in accordance with state and federal requirements. Our department coordinates assessment planning, testing logistics, accommodations, security procedures, reporting, and data support to help ensure accurate and meaningful assessment results. We are committed to providing reliable assessment information that educators can use to monitor student progress, inform instructional decisions, and support continuous improvement for all students. VPK-12 Student Assessments   Florida Assessment of Student Thinking (FAST) FAST Portal End-of-Course (EOC) Assessments Statewide Science Assessment Writing Assessments Florida Standards Alternate Assessment WIDA ACCESS Florida Civic Literacy Exam (FCLE) Florida Standards Assessments Retakes Assessment Schedules Assessments & Publications Archive K-12 Student Assessment Technical Reports Private School Opportunities for Statewide Assessm Results   Testing Policies   Levy County School students must adhere to the following testing policies as set by the Florida Department of Education.   Electronic Devices—Students are not allowed to access any electronic devices, including, but not limited to, cell phones, smart glasses, and smartwatches, at any time during testing or during breaks (e.g., restroom), even if the devices are turned off or students do not use them. Students may not wear smart glasses during statewide testing, even if they are prescription glasses. Students with prescription smart glasses will need to remove them or test another day with standard glasses. If your student is found with an electronic device or is found using Bluetooth/wireless headphones/earbuds during testing, his or her test will be invalidated (not scored). Calculator Policy—For Grades 7–8 FAST Mathematics, approved handheld scientific calculators may be used. For Grade 6 FAST Mathematics, a handheld four-function calculator may be used. Calculators are not allowed for Grades 3–5 Mathematics. Testing Rules Acknowledgment—All tests include a Testing Rules Acknowledgment that reads: “I understand the testing rules that were just read to me. If I do not follow these rules, my test score may be invalidated.” Prior to testing, test administrators read the rules to students, and students click a box in the test to show that they understand the testing rules. Discussing Test Content after Testing—The last part of the testing rules read to students states that because the test content is secure, students may not discuss or share details about the test items and passages after testing. This includes texting, emailing, or posting test content to social media sites. While students may not share information about what questions were on their test, this policy is not meant to prevent students from talking about their testing experiences with their parents/families. Working Independently—Students are responsible for doing their own work during the test and for protecting their answers from being seen by others. If students are caught cheating during testing, their tests will be invalidated (not scored). Illness/Leaving Campus—If your student leaves campus before completing a test (e.g., for lunch, an appointment), he or she may not be allowed to return to that test. If your student does not feel well on the day of testing, it may be best for him or her to wait and be tested on a make-up day. Please remember not to schedule appointments on testing days. Testing Accommodations—If your student has an Individual Educational Plan (IEP), a Section 504 Plan, or is an English Language Learner (ELL) or a recently exited ELL, please contact the school to discuss any testing accommodations that will be provided for your student. Testing Irregularities—If a testing irregularity occurs in your student’s testing room, as part of a school investigation, your student may be asked questions to provide information about the incident. In addition, your student may need to retake the test if a suspected irregularity is reported that may affect the validity of the test results. Extra Time—Any student still working at the end of the allotted time for the session will be provided extra time, as allowed, to complete the test. However, based on directions from the district, students who are not actively working (e.g., sleeping) at the end of regular time may be dismissed rather than being given extra time. MTSS

Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) Contact Darby Allen Coordinator of Literacy and MTSS Phone: (352) 486-5231 x2031 MTSS Parent Resources: Family Guide To MTSS Parent Guide MTSS Parent Guide MTSS - SPANISH Parent Information for Students Receiving Intensive Interventions Parent Information Intensive Interventions - SPANISH NWI Scholarship Flyer NWI Scholarship Flyer Spanish Understood.org Homepage What is MTSS? MTSS is a framework for organizing the various opportunities for supporting students in academics and/or behavior. Supports range from adjusting instruction to small group intervention. School-based teams use ongoing assessment of students to determine what support is needed and monitor the students’ progress to the intervention provided. Support is organized around three tiers. Tier 1 support is that which is available for all learners. Tier 2 are those interventions designed for some students. Tier 3 interventions are the most intensive supports that are required by the fewest students. The system is fluid and allows for students to be connected to the right level of support in whatever area is needed. Key Principles of MTSS Early intervention Instruction is matched to individual student's needs Frequent progress monitoring data are collected and reflected upon to ensure the effectiveness of instruction and interventions Evidence-based practices and interventions Parental involvement is encouraged Potential Benefits of MTSS Improved instruction and educational environment for all learners Provides support for students in need earlier Progress monitoring provides clear information Increased communication between parents and educators Questions a Parent/Guardian Can Ask The first point of contact for questions and concerns is always your child’s teacher. A phone call or parent conference is a great way to start the conversation about any difficulty that your child is experiencing. Is my child meeting academic and behavioral expectations? How do we know? If additional instruction or intervention is needed, what supports will be given to my child? How often will I be updated on my child’s progress? What can I do to support my child at home?

We are a small, (less than 150 students) publicly funded school of choice located in Chiefland, Florida. We are under the umbrella of the School Board of Levy County, Florida, but are independently run by our own Board of Directors. Levy County is a rural county that reaches from the Gulf of Mexico to the borders of Marion and Alachua County. We love the richness of where we live, whether enjoying the beautiful springs, the Suwannee River, the Gulf of Mexico or the beautiful woodlands and farmlands . . . Levy County has it all. Whispering Winds was founded in 1999 with the belief that smaller schools can provide a more personalized educational option for each child. We set high academic standards for all students, but also believe that your child is more than just a test score. Our goal is to provide a nurturing environment where your child can grow academically, socially and emotionally. We are publicly funded, but privately run. We are held to the same accountability as every other public school in the State of Florida, but we have a unique educational philosophy and our Board of Directors and School Advisory Committee are responsible for the philosophies, policies and procedures of Whispering Winds Charter School. We are very proud of our students and staff and believe that we provide an education option that focuses on high academic and social standards. We believe Whispering Winds is what every school can and should be. Affordable Website Design by
