Dangerous Swimming Conditions Expected on Lake Michigan Beaches

Day.News Breaking News: Residents and visitors are advised to remain out of Lake Michigan waters due to dangerous swimming conditions. A Beach Hazards Statement has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Chicago IL, effective immediately until Wednesday, September 23rd, at 10:00 PM CDT.

The NWS warns of high waves reaching 4 to 6 feet and dangerous currents expected at Lake Michigan beaches. These conditions are anticipated across Lake County, Northern Cook County, and Central Cook County in Illinois.

Swimming conditions will be life-threatening, particularly for inexperienced swimmers. The NWS advises the public to remain out of the water to avoid these dangerous conditions. Additionally, individuals should not venture out onto piers, jetties, breakwalls, or other shoreline structures during this period.

The Beach Hazards Statement was issued on September 22nd at 9:44 PM CDT and is set to expire on September 23rd at 10:00 PM CDT.
