Death Toll Rises as Venezuela Earthquake Response Continues
CARACAS, Venezuela — An earthquake in Venezuela has now claimed the lives of nearly 2,300 individuals, officials reported. Thousands more sustained injuries, and tens of thousands remain unaccounted for following the disaster.
Hospitals and morgues across the affected region are operating beyond capacity, straining resources. Humanitarian organizations are addressing an urgent demand for basic necessities, including food and water.
Public frustration about the pace of the emergency response has also increased. Authorities continue to coordinate rescue and recovery operations in affected areas.
Amid these conditions, Chef José Andrés' organization, World Central Kitchen, has mobilized to provide food assistance. The group is delivering meals to earthquake survivors and to teams of first responders working on the ground. Geoff Bennett spoke with Chef Andrés, who described the organization's efforts.
