A High Wind Warning has been issued for numerous counties across north central, northeast, northwest, and west central Georgia. Residents in these areas should secure loose outdoor objects and prepare for potential power outages.

The warning is effective from midnight tonight, October 9, 2026, until 8:00 AM EDT on Sunday, October 11, 2026. East winds are expected to reach 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 50 mph. Higher elevations in the north Georgia mountains may experience stronger gusts.

Counties affected include Dade, Walker, Catoosa, Whitfield, Murray, Fannin, Gilmer, Union, Towns, Chattooga, Gordon, Pickens, Dawson, Lumpkin, White, Floyd, Bartow, Cherokee, Forsyth, Hall, Banks, Jackson, Madison, Polk, Paulding, Cobb, North Fulton, Gwinnett, Barrow, Clarke, Oconee, Haralson, Carroll, Douglas, South Fulton, DeKalb, Rockdale, Walton, Newton, Coweta, Fayette, Clayton, Spalding, and Henry.

The National Weather Service Peachtree City GA states that damaging winds are expected to blow down trees and power lines, leading to widespread power outages. Travel will be difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles.

Instructions from the NWS advise securing loose objects that could be blown around or damaged by the wind. Watch for falling debris and tree limbs, and use caution if driving during this period.
