Landspout Threat: Seek Shelter in Brantley, Camden, Charlton, Ware Counties
A Special Weather Statement has been issued for Brantley, Inland Camden, Northern Ware, Northeastern Charlton, and Western Charlton counties due to a strong thunderstorm capable of producing a landspout and 40 mph winds, effective until 5:45 PM EDT. Residents should seek indoor shelter.
Residents in Brantley, Inland Camden, Northern Ware, Northeastern Charlton, and Western Charlton counties should seek shelter indoors due to a Special Weather Statement issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Jacksonville FL.
A strong thunderstorm capable of producing a landspout and wind gusts around 40 mph was detected by Doppler radar at 5:08 PM EDT. This storm is currently near Race Pond, approximately 10 miles north of Folkston, and is moving southeast at 5 mph.
The NWS warns that minor damage to outdoor objects is possible. Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Locations impacted include Folkston, Homeland, Race Pond, and Winokur.
This Special Weather Statement is effective immediately and expires at 5:45 PM EDT today, October 3, 2026. If you are outdoors in the affected areas, consider seeking shelter inside a building for your safety.
