Raymond McNary, Charleston Veteran, Dies at 79
Raymond Wade McNary, a Charleston native and Vietnam-era Army veteran, died peacefully at his home May 6. He was 79.
McNary was born Jan. 6, 1947, to Clifford and Beulah Rardin McNary. He graduated from Charleston High School in 1965 and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era.
He worked 30 years at Moore Business Forms as a press operator and supervisor, then spent 10 years at JJ Collins as a press operator. In retirement, he operated a lawn mowing business.
McNary attended East Harrison Street Church of God and was a member of the Lions Club, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #1388, and Paul McVey VFW Post #1592. He cared for pets and stray animals throughout his life.
He is survived by his daughter Melissa McNary of Charleston, son Scott McNary and wife Tracy of Denver, grandsons Kenneth Kennard and Chase McNary, sister Donna Wininger and husband Carl of Charleston, and close friend Harriett Wilson of Mattoon.
Funeral services were held May 11 at Adams Funeral Chapel with Pastor Ron Milburn officiating. Paul McVey VFW Post #1592 conducted military rites at Liberty Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Coles County Animal Shelter, 6818 N CR 1120 E, Charleston, IL 61920.
