A Special Weather Statement has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Charleston WV for areas including Greenup, Carter, Boyd, Lawrence, Dickenson, Buchanan, Wayne, Cabell, Mason, Jackson, Lincoln, Putnam, Kanawha, Roane, Wirt, Calhoun, Ritchie, Mingo, Logan, Boone, Clay, Braxton, Gilmer, McDowell, Wyoming, Northwest Raleigh, Southeast Raleigh, Northwest Fayette, Southeast Fayette, Northwest Nicholas, Southeast Nicholas, and Northwest Webster.

Dense fog is expected in many valley locations this morning, with visibility dropping below a half mile. This statement is effective immediately, September 25, 2026, from 1:03 AM EDT and is expected to expire at 4:00 AM EDT.

Motorists are urged to use extreme caution while driving. Be prepared for sudden, significant changes in visibility. Maintain greater distances between your vehicle and others, and do not assume the road ahead is clear. Use low beam headlights and allow additional time to safely reach your destination.
