Tropical Storm Warning Issued for Chambers County: Prepare for Severe Weather
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Chambers County, including Valley, Lanett, and Lafayette, effective immediately, with expected tropical storm-force winds, moderate flooding, and a favorable environment for tornadoes.
CHAMBERS COUNTY – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL, has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for Chambers County, effective immediately as of October 9 at 10:17 AM CDT. This warning indicates that tropical storm-force winds are expected within the next 36 hours in Valley, Lanett, and Lafayette.
Residents should prepare for potential winds of 10-25 mph with gusts up to 50 mph. While sustained winds are expected to remain below tropical storm force, gusty conditions are possible. Monitor local officials' instructions and ensure emergency readiness in case forecasts change.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with 1-3 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. Moderate flooding is a potential threat, which could lead to evacuations and rescues. Rivers and streams may overflow, and floodwaters could impact structures, underpasses, and low-lying areas. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act could result in serious injury or loss of life.
The NWS also reports conditions are favorable for several tornadoes, with significant impacts possible, including damage to homes, power outages, and communication failures. If a tornado warning is issued, be prepared to shelter quickly. The warning is effective until October 9, 2026, 6:30 PM UTC. For more information, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
