Tropical Storm Warning for Chambers County: Flood Threat Immediate
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Chambers County, including Valley, Lanett, and Lafayette, with immediate threats of moderate flooding and hazardous driving conditions. Heed all flood warnings and consider protective actions.
A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Chambers County, effective immediately as of October 9 at 6:57 PM CDT by the National Weather Service (NWS) Birmingham, AL. This warning affects the communities of Valley, Lanett, and Lafayette, and is set to expire on October 10 at 3:00 AM UTC.
Residents should prepare for moderate flooding from heavy rainfall. A Flood Watch is in effect, with an additional 1-3 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. Moderate rainfall flooding may lead to evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries may become swollen, and small streams, creeks, and ditches could overflow. Floodwaters may enter structures and cause hazardous driving conditions, with potential road and bridge closures. Heed any flood watches and warnings, and consider protective actions if you are in a flood-prone area. Failure to take action may result in serious injury or loss of life.
While wind speeds are forecast to be below tropical storm force (15-25 mph with gusts up to 50 mph), conditions may still be gusty. Little to no additional wind impacts are expected, but the NWS advises ensuring emergency readiness should the forecast change. The tornado threat has decreased, with tornadoes not expected.
