Extreme Storm Surge Warning for Lower St. Bernard Parish
An extreme Storm Surge Warning is in effect for Lower St. Bernard Parish, with life-threatening 3-5 feet of inundation possible; residents must remain sheltered and avoid going outside.
A Storm Surge Warning has been issued for Lower St. Bernard Parish, including Yscloskey, Delacroix, and Shell Beach, effective immediately until 6:15 PM CDT today, October 9.
The National Weather Service in New Orleans, LA, warns of life-threatening storm surge with potential inundation of 3-5 feet above ground in surge-prone areas, continuing through Saturday morning. Flood preparations and ordered evacuations should be complete. Evacuees are urged to be in shelters well away from storm surge flooding. Residents must remain sheltered in a safe location and not venture outside.
Wind speeds are expected to remain below tropical storm force, with peak gusts up to 60 mph. There is little to no additional significant rainfall or tornado threat expected. Community officials are currently assessing realized wind impacts. For more information, visit gohsep.la.gov/emergency.
