Village of Athens selected for drinking water protection program

The Village of Athens was selected in 2022 to develop and implement a Drinking Water Source Protection Program (DWSP2) plan. This locally led, state-supported initiative aims to empower municipalities to take action to improve and protect their public water sources and the surrounding environment.

The DWSP2 program provides a framework for communities to proactively safeguard their drinking water supplies through strategic planning and local action. The Village of Athens is now tasked with creating and executing its specific plan under this program.
