Residents across a wide portion of Southeast Arizona should prepare for a Wind Advisory issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Tucson. The advisory is effective from 8 AM MST to 2 PM MST on Sunday.

East winds are expected to reach 20 to 30 mph, with gusts up to 40 to 55 mph. This strong wind activity has the potential to impact unsecured objects, cause tree limbs to fall, and may result in isolated power outages.

The affected areas include the Upper Santa Cruz River and Altar Valleys (including Nogales), the Tucson Metro Area (including Tucson, Green Valley, Marana, and Vail), South Central Pinal County (including Eloy and Picacho Peak State Park), Southeast Pinal County (including Kearny, Mammoth, and Oracle), the Upper San Pedro River Valley (including Sierra Vista and Benson), Eastern Cochise County Below 5000 Feet (including Douglas and Willcox), the Upper Gila River and Aravaipa Valleys (including Clifton and Safford), the Galiuro and Pinaleno Mountains (including Mount Graham), the Chiricahua Mountains (including Chiricahua National Monument), the Dragoon, Mule, Huachuca, and Santa Rita Mountains (including Bisbee, Canelo Hills, and Madera Canyon), the Santa Catalina and Rincon Mountains (including Mount Lemmon and Summerhaven), and the Baboquivari Mountains (including Kitt Peak).

The NWS advises that winds of this strength can make driving particularly difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles. Drivers should exercise extra caution during this period. Secure any loose outdoor items to prevent them from being blown away or causing damage.
