Carthage Receives $20K Water Line Repair Grant

Staff Writer
June 11, 2026

The Sabine River Authority of Texas awarded the City of Carthage a $20,000 grant May 9 to repair a deteriorating 14-inch concrete water line near the intersection of Dixie Lake Road and Sabine Street.

Mayor Olin Joffrion accepted the check from authority board members Cliff Todd, Elton Brock, Josh McAdams and Darrin Rudolph. City commissioners Jerry Hanszen, Tate Barber, Walta Cooke and Isha Brown attended, along with City Manager Steve Williams.

The authority's board approved the grant in March as part of its Fiscal Year 2023 Economic Development Initiative. The Community Assistance Program funds projects up to $20,000 for water supply, wastewater management, water conservation and water quality work.

Governmental entities, districts and nonprofit water or sewer corporations within the Sabine River Basin qualify for the program. For information, contact Zach Johnson at (409) 746-2192 or [email protected].
