Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Eddy County: Seek Shelter Immediately
A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for north-central Eddy County until 7:00 PM MDT today, September 29, with threats of 70 mph wind gusts and penny-sized hail; residents should seek immediate shelter.
EDDY, NM – The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for north-central Eddy County, effective immediately until 7:00 PM MDT today, September 29.
Residents in the affected area, particularly those 18 miles west of Maljamar or 20 miles east of Artesia, should seek shelter indoors in a sturdy structure. A severe thunderstorm was located at 6:33 PM MDT, moving northeast at 40 mph. This storm carries a significant threat of 70 mph wind gusts and penny-sized hail.
The NWS warns that considerable tree damage is expected. Damage to mobile homes, roofs, and outbuildings is also likely. Although a tornado is not immediately likely, a tornado watch remains in effect for the warned area. Tornadoes can develop quickly from severe thunderstorms. If a tornado is spotted, act quickly and move to a place of safety inside a sturdy structure, such as a basement or small interior room.
For your protection, move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. This warning was issued by NWS Midland/Odessa TX.
