Severe Thunderstorm Warning: Eddy County Residents Advised to Seek Shelter
A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for north central Eddy County until 6:00 PM MDT today, September 29, with hazards including 60 mph wind gusts; residents are advised to seek immediate shelter and prepare for potential damage.
EDDY COUNTY, NM – Residents in north central Eddy County are advised to take immediate shelter as a Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Midland/Odessa TX, effective until 6:00 PM MDT today, September 29.
At 5:47 PM MDT, a severe thunderstorm was located 13 miles southeast of Artesia, moving north at 25 mph. This storm presents a significant hazard with 60 mph wind gusts, according to radar indications. The NWS warns that impacts may include damage to roofs, siding, and trees. The severe thunderstorm is expected to remain over mainly rural areas of north central Eddy County.
For your protection, move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. The NWS also advises remaining alert for a possible tornado, as tornadoes can develop quickly from severe thunderstorms. If a tornado is spotted, go at once into a basement or a small central room in a sturdy structure.
