GNTC awards Roper Corporation scholarships to two local employees

Georgia Northwestern Technical College awarded its spring 2026 Roper Corporation Scholarship to Tammy Chandler of Trion and Salvador Hernandez of Summerville.

Chandler studies Computer Support Specialist at the Walker County Campus. Hernandez pursues Automation Technology at the Catoosa County Campus. Both work at Roper Corporation, which requires scholarship recipients to maintain employment during the award semester.

Roper Corporation established the scholarship in 2024 to help employees pursue technical education. Recipients can use funds for tuition, fees, supplies, tools or educational materials.

"This scholarship removes financial barriers and opens doors for more students to pursue high-demand technical careers," said Luther Ingram, Roper's president and a GNTC Foundation trustee.

The LaFayette plant manufactures ranges, ovens and cooktops and employs more than 2,500 workers. GNTC enrolled 9,342 credit students over the past year and achieved a 100 percent placement rate.
