Cape Coral Motorcyclists: Florida License Endorsement Rules You Must Follow

Cape Coral residents operating a two- or three-wheel motorcycle with an engine size over 50cc must have a motorcycle endorsement on their driver's license or hold a 'Motorcycle Only' license in Florida. Operating a motorcycle without the proper endorsement is a violation of state law.

This requirement ensures all motorcyclists on Florida roads have met specific safety standards. The process involves holding a valid Class E operator’s driver license and completing an authorized motorcycle safety course.

After successfully passing the motorcycle safety course, individuals must obtain their endorsement within one year. If the endorsement is not added to the license within this one-year grace period, the course completion card and “PASS” waiver status become invalid. This requires the individual to retake the full motorcycle safety course.

Florida allows the transfer of motorcycle endorsements from most U.S. states, territories, possessions, U.S. Armed Forces, Canada, France, and Germany for customers aged 16 or older. However, customers with an existing motorcycle endorsement from Alabama must follow the original endorsement process in Florida. Individuals who completed an approved Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) course in another state can present their completion card within one year of its issue date to obtain a Florida endorsement.

Residents needing to obtain or transfer an endorsement can visit a local service center. They should inform staff about their completed course, provide proper identification, and pay the required fee to have their Class E license issued with a motorcycle endorsement.
