Strong Thunderstorm Approaches Pikes Peak Area: Seek Shelter
A strong thunderstorm with wind gusts up to 50 mph and half-inch hail is impacting Teller County, Pikes Peak, and parts of El Paso County; seek shelter indoors until 6:15 PM MDT.
Residents in Teller County, the Rampart Range above 7500 feet, and areas of Pikes Peak between 7500 and 11000 feet, including the Colorado Springs vicinity and southern El Paso County, are advised to seek shelter indoors due to a strong thunderstorm. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Pueblo, CO, issued a Special Weather Statement at 5:44 PM MDT, effective until 6:15 PM MDT today, October 4, 2026.
At 5:43 PM MDT, radar indicated a strong thunderstorm over Pikes Peak, approximately 13 miles west of Colorado Springs, moving southeast at 10 mph. The primary hazards associated with this storm are wind gusts of 40 to 50 mph and half-inch hail.
Impacts from this storm may include downed tree limbs and unsecured objects being blown around. Minor hail damage to vegetation is also possible. Locations specifically impacted are Western Colorado Springs and Pikes Peak.
The NWS advises that if you are outdoors in the affected areas, you should consider seeking shelter inside a building immediately.
