Canon City's Public Works Department is looking to fill a Streets Maintenance Worker I position to help maintain and repair the city's streets, alleys, sidewalks, and right-of-way facilities. The starting pay for the role ranges from $16.64 to $19.14 per hour.
The position involves a variety of semi-skilled and skilled duties, including operating light to medium equipment such as dump trucks, front-end loaders, and backhoes. Essential responsibilities also include performing snow removal, installing and repairing traffic signs and pavement markings, and maintaining storm drainage systems. The role may also involve assisting with concrete and asphalt repairs, performing routine equipment maintenance, and responding to emergency situations.
To be considered for the position, applicants must possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent. While some experience in construction or maintenance work is preferred, any combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered. A valid Colorado driver's license is required, and new hires must obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within six months of employment.
The job requires the ability to perform manual labor for extended periods and operate equipment safely and efficiently. Employees will regularly be exposed to outside weather conditions and may encounter noise levels that are moderate to loud. The role also requires the ability to stand, walk, and use hands for various tasks, with occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities, including close and distance vision, color vision, and depth perception, are also necessary.
The Streets Maintenance Worker I works under the general supervision of the Streets Supervisor or a designee. This is a crucial role in ensuring the city's infrastructure remains in good condition and safe for residents.
