The Clackamas County Board of County Commissioners will hold two public hearings to consider adopting a temporary moratorium on data center development in unincorporated Clackamas County.

The Clackamas County Board of County Commissioners will hold two public hearings to consider adopting a temporary moratorium on data center development in unincorporated Clackamas County. The hearings give community members a chance to share their opinions on the potential moratorium and provide concerns and other feedback about data centers. Public hearing dates: Wednesday, Oct. 21, 6 p.m. Board Meeting Room, 4th floorClackamas County Public Services Building2051 Kaen RoadOregon City, OR Attend virtually via Zoom Thursday, Oct. 22, 10 a.m. Board Meeting Room, 4th floorClackamas County Public Services Building2051 Kaen RoadOregon City, OR Attend virtually via Zoom Can't attend in person or virtually? You can submit written testimony to [email protected], and it will be included in the record. What to expect County staff will provide information about the criteria for establishing a moratorium. The staff presentation will focus on those criteria. Staff will not propose changes to county code related to data centers during these hearings. If the Board adopts a moratorium, public input received during the hearings could help inform the Board's consideration of future code changes. About data centers Data centers are facilities that house computer systems and related equipment used to store, process, and manage digital information. The growth of artificial intelligence and cloud computing is contributing to increased data center development nationwide. Data centers can involve considerations related to land use, energy, water, infrastructure, noise, and other factors. The National Association of Counties (NACo) has developed an informational resource for county officials that provides an overview of data center development and topics counties may consider as they evaluate local regulations.
