Tropical Storm Watch Issued for Mitchell County: Prepare for Winds, Rain, and Tornadoes

MITCHELL COUNTY – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Tallahassee, FL, has issued a Tropical Storm Watch for Mitchell County, effective October 8 at 11:05 PM EDT. This watch includes the communities of Camilla and Pelham and will remain in effect until October 9 at 7:15 AM UTC.
Residents should prepare for hazardous wind, potential moderate flooding, and the possibility of several tornadoes. Peak wind forecasts are 15-25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph, but the potential exists for winds of 39-57 mph. Efforts to protect property should begin immediately. Complete all preparations before winds become hazardous.
A Flood Watch is in effect, with 3-6 inches of rain expected, potentially leading to moderate flooding. Emergency plans should account for possible evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act may result in serious injury or loss of life. Rivers and tributaries may become swollen, and floodwaters could impact structures.
The situation is favorable for tornadoes. Emergency plans should include the potential for several tornadoes, some possibly intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should prepare to relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly if one is issued. Scattered tornadoes could cause significant damage, power outages, and communication failures.
