Tropical Storm Watch Issued for Mitchell County: Prepare for Severe Weather
A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for Mitchell County, including Camilla and Pelham, with severe threats including hazardous winds, major flooding, and potential tornadoes. Residents should complete preparations now and heed all warnings.
MITCHELL COUNTY – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Tallahassee, FL, has issued a Tropical Storm Watch for Mitchell County, effective immediately as of October 9, 2026, at 5:17 AM EDT. This alert impacts residents in Camilla and Pelham.
Residents should prepare for hazardous wind, potential major flooding, and the possibility of several tornadoes. Winds are forecast at 15-25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, with a potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Efforts to protect property should be underway, and all preparations should be completed before hazardous winds arrive.
A Flood Watch is in effect, with an additional 3-6 inches of rain expected, and locally higher amounts possible. Major flooding is anticipated, potentially requiring evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings, as failure to act could result in serious injury or loss of life. Rivers and small streams may overflow their banks, and floodwaters could enter structures. Avoid driving through flooded areas.
The situation is also favorable for tornadoes. Residents in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelter. Listen for tornado watches and warnings; if a warning is issued, be ready to shelter quickly. Tornadoes can cause significant damage and power outages.
