Tropical Storm Watch Issued for Camilla, Pelham; Act Now
A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Camilla and Pelham, urging residents to complete preparations for hazardous winds, major flooding, and potential tornadoes, according to the NWS Tallahassee.
A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Camilla and Pelham in Mitchell County, effective immediately from the National Weather Service (NWS) Tallahassee, FL. This watch was issued today, October 9, at 8:28 AM EDT and expires at 4:30 PM UTC (12:30 PM EDT).
Residents in affected areas should act now to complete preparations before hazardous conditions develop. Efforts to protect property should be underway. Plan for potential wind speeds of 39 to 57 mph, with gusts up to 40 mph, which could cause limited damage to structures like porches, awnings, and carports. Expect potential power and communications outages, and prepare for roads to become impassable due to debris.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with an additional 3-6 inches of rain forecast, and locally higher amounts possible. Major flooding is anticipated, which may necessitate evacuations and rescues. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act could result in serious injury or loss of life. Rivers and small streams may overflow, and floodwaters could enter numerous structures.
The situation is also favorable for tornadoes, with the potential for several, some possibly intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should relocate to safe shelters. Listen for tornado watches and warnings, and be ready to shelter quickly if a warning is issued. Tornadoes could cause significant damage, power loss, and communications failures.
