Final Oil Tank Demolished at Everett Waterfront Site

Demolition of Final Oil Tank Clears Way for Everett Waterfront Development

The last storage tank at the former ExxonMobil site in Everett came down this week, removing a final obstacle to redevelopment of the 105-acre property along the Mystic River.

The Davis Companies and Global Partners LP, which acquired the site in 2023, plan to build housing, retail space, and commercial offices on the remediated land. The developers envision a walkable neighborhood with open space and facilities for high-tech manufacturing.

The demolished tank measured 190 feet in diameter and once held 16 million gallons of home heating oil. Crews spent months preparing the structure before cutting it into pieces and removing it.

"This final step clears the way to begin vertical development," Michael Cantalupa, chief development officer for The Davis Companies, said in a statement.

Mayor Robert Van Campen attended the demolition. He called it a turning point for the city, marking the end of Everett's industrial past at the site and the start of a new economic chapter.

Remediation work at the site, the largest environmental cleanup in Everett's history, is nearly complete.
