Lake Wind Advisory Issued: Boaters Advised Caution on Area Lakes

Boaters on area lakes are advised to use extra caution this evening due to a Lake Wind Advisory issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Columbia, SC. The advisory is in effect until 11:00 PM EDT tonight, October 10, 2026.
East winds are expected to reach 10 to 20 mph, with gusts potentially reaching up to 30 mph. These conditions will create strong winds and rough waves on area lakes, posing hazardous conditions for small craft.
The advisory covers a portion of central South Carolina, including the counties of Chesterfield, Newberry, Fairfield, Kershaw, Saluda, Lexington, Richland, Lee, Aiken, Sumter, Barnwell, Calhoun, Clarendon, Bamberg, Northern Lancaster, Southern Lancaster, Northwestern Orangeburg, Central Orangeburg, and Southeastern Orangeburg.
The NWS warns that strong winds and rough waves can overturn small craft. Boaters should exercise extreme caution.
