Strong Storm Near Houston: Seek Shelter, Winds Up to 50 MPH

Residents in Calhoun, Chickasaw, and Monroe counties are advised to seek shelter indoors as a strong thunderstorm was detected at 7:39 PM CDT by Doppler radar. The National Weather Service in Memphis, TN, issued a Special Weather Statement for this event, which is expected to expire at 8:30 PM CDT.

The storm, located near Pyland, approximately 7 miles northwest of Houston, is moving southeast at 10 mph. Hazards include wind gusts up to 50 mph and half-inch hail.

Potential impacts include downed tree limbs and unsecured objects being blown around by gusty winds. Minor damage to vegetation from hail is also possible. If you are outdoors, immediately consider seeking shelter inside a building.

Areas that may be impacted include Houston, Okolona, Calhoun City, Vardaman, Derma, Pyland, New Wren, Trebloc, Houlka, New Houlka, Woodland, Thorn, Egypt, Reid, Loyd, Wren, Thelma, McCondy, Atlanta, and Buena Vista.
