Residents in Imperial County West and Imperial Valley should prepare for a Wind Advisory and an Extreme Heat Warning, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) Phoenix AZ.

The Wind Advisory is in effect from 2 AM to 5 PM PDT on Sunday, October 11. South winds are expected to reach 25 to 35 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph. Driving conditions, especially for high-profile vehicles, may be difficult. Light, unsecured objects could become airborne. Strong winds over desert areas may also reduce visibility due to blowing dust or sand. Drivers are advised to use extra caution.

The Extreme Heat Warning continues until 8 PM PDT this evening, October 9. Dangerously hot conditions are expected, with afternoon temperatures ranging from 104 to 109 degrees. The NWS advises taking precautions against heat-related illnesses. Reschedule strenuous outdoor activities to early morning or evening. Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing and drink plenty of water. Know the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. If someone is overcome by heat, move them to a cool, shaded location and call 911 if heat stroke is suspected.

Consult county officials for information on public cooling shelters in your area.
