Extreme Heat Warning Issued for Imperial County; Winds Expected
An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect for Imperial County West and Imperial Valley until 8 PM PDT, with dangerously hot temperatures up to 109 degrees, coupled with a Wind Advisory for Sunday.
Residents of Imperial County West and Imperial Valley are urged to take immediate precautions as an Extreme Heat Warning is in effect until 8:00 PM PDT this evening, October 9, 2026. Dangerously hot conditions are expected, with afternoon temperatures ranging from 104 to 109 degrees Fahrenheit, posing a major heat risk.
The National Weather Service Phoenix AZ also reports a Wind Advisory for the same areas, effective from 2:00 AM to 5:00 PM PDT on Sunday, October 10, 2026. South winds of 25 to 35 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph, are expected. These strong winds can create difficult driving conditions, particularly for larger vehicles and those traveling in crosswinds. Light, unsecured objects may become airborne, and blowing dust or sand could reduce visibility.
To combat the extreme heat, take extra precautions if working or spending time outdoors. Reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing and drink plenty of water. Know the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. If overcome by heat, move to a cool, shaded location immediately. Heat stroke is a medical emergency; call 911.
For the wind advisory, use extra caution when driving, especially for high-profile vehicles. Strong winds over desert areas could cause briefly lowered visibilities. Consult county officials for information on public cooling shelters.
