Winter Storm Warning: Heavy Snow and Strong Winds Expected for Butte/Blackfoot Region

Residents in the Butte/Blackfoot Region are advised to prepare for a Winter Storm Warning issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Missoula MT, effective from 6 PM this evening, October 10, until 6 AM MDT Monday, October 12.

Heavy snow and strong winds are expected, making travel very difficult. Total snow accumulations are forecast to be between 3 and 9 inches, with higher mountain areas, including MacDonald Pass, Homestake Pass, and Georgetown Lake, potentially seeing 12-18 inches. Winds are expected to gust as high as 45 mph.

The affected areas include MacDonald Pass, Homestake Pass, Highway 12 Garrison to Elliston, Georgetown Lake, and Butte.

If travel is unavoidable, the NWS urges motorists to keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in their vehicle as an emergency precaution. For the latest road conditions, residents can call 511.
