Cranberry Township reminds residents and employers about the Local Services Tax (LST), a $52 annual tax levied on individuals performing work for hire within the township. Employers are responsible for deducting this tax from employee paychecks and remitting it quarterly. Self-employed individuals who maintain an office in Cranberry Township must pay the tax directly on an annual basis.
The LST aims to support local services. Understanding the tax requirements can help residents and businesses ensure compliance and avoid potential penalties.
Exemptions Available
Individuals earning less than $12,000 annually in total earned income and net profits are eligible for an exemption from the LST. To claim this exemption, residents must complete and submit an Exemption Certificate to their employer or the Township. Additionally, those whose primary place of employment is outside Cranberry Township may be exempt if they have already paid the LST to their primary employer. A Primary Employment Exemption Certificate is required for this exemption.
Payment and Forms
Employers must remit LST payments quarterly using a completed Quarterly Return form. Self-employed individuals are required to submit their LST payments annually, accompanied by the Self-Employed LST Return form.
Relevant forms, including the Exemption Certificate, Primary Employment Exemption Certificate, Quarterly Return, and Self-Employed LST Return, are available for download or pickup.
