A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Butler County, including Greenville, effective immediately by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile, AL. This watch will remain in effect until 12:15 PM UTC on October 8, 2026. Residents should finalize preparations for dangerous conditions, including potential tropical storm-force winds, moderate flooding, and several tornadoes.

The NWS predicts peak winds of 25-35 mph with gusts up to 45 mph, with a potential for winds reaching 58 to 73 mph. Significant impacts are expected, including damage to roofing, siding, and mobile homes, as well as snapped trees and impassable roads. Scattered power and communication outages are also anticipated.

Rainfall amounts of 2-4 inches are forecast, with localized higher totals, leading to potential moderate flooding. Rivers and tributaries may overflow, and floodwaters could enter structures. Driving conditions are expected to become hazardous.

The threat of tornadoes has increased. Emergency plans should account for several tornadoes, some potentially intense. Those in manufactured homes or on boats should seek safe shelter before hazardous weather arrives.

Actionable Information:

  • WIND: Complete all preparations now before winds become hazardous. Efforts to protect life and property should be underway.
  • FLOODING RAIN: Heed all flood watches and warnings. If you are in a flood-vulnerable area, consider protective actions.
  • TORNADO: Listen for tornado watches and warnings. Be ready to shelter quickly if a warning is issued.
