Yancey County Kid Mountain Playground Reopens with ADA Features
Yancey County opened the renovated Kid Mountain Playground on May 19, featuring ADA-compliant equipment and sensory-friendly play structures for children and families of all abilities.
The $611,450 project drew a $305,725 grant from the North Carolina Parks and Recreation Trust Fund, which county commissioners matched. The original playground opened in 2001.
"Seeing the joy on the faces of kids and families during yesterday's celebration made all the work worthwhile," said Project Manager Morgan West.
County Commissioner Mark Ledford said the investment ensures "Kid Mountain Playground will continue to serve as a place of connection, play, and inclusion for generations to come."
The playground is open to the public. For information, contact County Manager Lynn Austin at [email protected] or 828-682-3971.
