DUI Arrests During Memorial Day Weekend in Flagler County
Flagler County Sheriff's Office deputies made 20 arrests over Memorial Day weekend, including two for driving under the influence, while responding to 1,418 calls for service and conducting 350 traffic stops between Friday, May 22, and Tuesday, May 26.
On Saturday night, May 23, deputies arrested Nikia Walker, 47, of Daytona Beach, for DUI after she sideswiped another vehicle on southbound Interstate 95 near Palm Coast around 9 p.m. Walker failed a field sobriety test and registered breath samples of 0.15 and 0.147, nearly double the legal limit. She was released on a $1,000 bond.
On Sunday morning, May 24, deputies clocked Rafael Lopez, 62, of St. Augustine, driving 105 mph in a 70-mph zone on southbound I-95 near the 283-mile marker. Lopez claimed his leg had locked up. His driving record included a 2022 conviction for driving 127 mph in a 60-mph zone. He was released on a $150 bond.
Sheriff Rick Staly said, "Driving impaired puts every driver on the road at risk. Causing a crash at interstate speeds, she is lucky her night ended with a ride to jail and not the hospital or morgue or injuring or killing anyone."
