Jay Wange Wins Ellen Licari Award at Mohave College

Jay Wange, a mathematics instructor at Mohave College, received the 2026 Ellen Licari Service to Students Award, one of two recipients this year.
Wange joined Mohave College three years ago after teaching middle and high school math for 31 years. He holds a bachelor's degree in secondary math education from Concordia College and a master's degree in curriculum assessment and instruction from Walden University.
The award recognizes employees who prioritize student success and honors Ellen Licari, a former college adviser who died in 2011.
Two students nominated Wange for the award. One wrote that Wange "believed in me and in the entire class" and "offered daily encouragement that kept us moving forward." The student added that Wange "made sure no one faced challenges alone."
"I love my job, and this award tells me that my passion is transparent for my students," Wange said.
Wange collaborates with colleagues on teaching methods and encourages students to pursue careers they feel passionate about. Mohave College will honor Wange during employee convocation this fall. Kevin Kanorr, a respiratory care practitioner faculty member, also received the award this year.
Registration for fall 2026 opens August 17. Students can register at FutureBighorn.com or contact Admissions at Mohave.edu/Admission. Information about the mathematics degree program is available at Mohave.edu/Mathematics.
