Ririe Maverik Ex-Worker Charged in $760 Refund Theft Scheme
RIRIE, Idaho (Day.News) — Maria Carillo, 29, faces three felony counts of grand larceny and three misdemeanor counts of petit theft after allegedly stealing $759.90 from a Maverik gas station at 110 West Ririe Highway. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office detective was assigned to the case on Jan. 13 following a tip from the company’s asset protection team, who had already fired Carillo.
Surveillance video captured Carillo completing cash transactions and immediately issuing refunds to herself between Nov. 24 and Dec. 22, 2025. The scheme unfolded at the Ririe location, a key stop for locals along the highway in rural Jefferson County, where Maverik serves as a hub for fuel and quick stops amid Idaho’s potato country.
A warrant was issued March 27, and Carillo was arrested April 13. She is scheduled for a preliminary hearing before Magistrate Judge Trent Belnap on May 28. Though charged, Carillo is presumed innocent until proven guilty, with potential penalties up to 45 years in prison if convicted.
